Cambridge Display Technology (CDT) is acknowledged on the web site of the University of Cambridge as the first University of Cambridge spin-out to go public.
The company was founded in 1992 from research carried out at the Cavendish Laboratory at Cambridge University. While working in the research group of Professor Richard Friend, Jeremy Burroughes (now CTO of CDT) discovered that LEDs could be made using conjugated polymers. Professor Friend, Dr Burroughes and Dr Donal Bradley filed the original patent in this field.
CDT floated on the NASDAQ in December under the symbol OLED. Dr David Fyfe, CEO of CDT said “This is an important milestone for CDT, and we are delighted by the confidence shown by investors in the attractiveness of our technology and in our ability to support it as the market builds to full scale commercialisation.”
