| Merck KGaA, the world leading supplier of liquid crystals for use in the display and lighting industries, has announced the acquisition of two units of Avecia: the Covion materials supply business based in Germany, and also the polymer electronics research business, based in the UK.
CDT sees this move as highly positive, expecting it to add to the momentum of PLED materials development. In December 2004, Merck announced the acquisition of the Lumitec OLED R & D project of Schott AG.
