OTB Group of The Netherlands, and Royal Philips Electronics today announced that the polymer light emitting diode (PLED) activity of Philips (branded PolyLED) has been acquired by OTB Display.
Both OTB and Philips have worked closely with CDT over the last few years; Philips was the first licensee of the CDT technology, and has brought to market several high profile products including the 'Magic Mirror' cell phone.
Philips has made an important contribution to the development of the technology and the manufacturing processes used to produce displays. This know-how will be transferred to OTB Display along with approximately 50 employees from the Philips facility at Heerlen, according to an OTB press release.
The release also states that "...OTB Display already offers the first fully integrated in-line production solution for the manufacture of full colour OLED displays...".
Harrie Brunklaus, CEO New Displays in Philips, pointed to the good results achieved with the 'exciting new technology', and stated that "Philips has decided to ensure the continuation of the PolyLED activity".
Bas van Rens, CEO of OTB said: "....we expect to enable our customers to have OLED displays to penetrate quicker in consumer and business markets".
