Status
The range of display and lighting applications which P-OLEDs can address is large and growing – due in part to the continuing progress in the lifetime of the materials.
CDT actively develops both fluorescent and phosphorescent OLED technologies, allowing it to achieve the best performance in colour values, efficiency and brightness.

The range of display and lighting applications which P-OLEDs can address is large and growing – due in part to the continuing progress in the lifetime of the materials. Early applications of P-OLEDs for small displays have already been commercialized. CDT is now working with its partners on major projects with defined end user applications in mind.
Awarded projects
Examples of some of these are given here:
- Partnering with Thorn Lighting, Pilkington and other industrial and academic partners, CDT is working to develop a pilot line process for the fabrication of 6” P-OLED solid state lighting devices for integration into luminaires.
- Working with Silvaco, Plastic Logic, Eight19 and Cambridge University, CDT aims to develop robust optical and electrical models that can predict trends in performance, ultimately to accelerate optimisation of organic devices.
- CDT aims to address the market for printable electronics labels (integrated smart systems) for security related applications through the development of air stable cathodes.
- Understanding and predicting the flow and drying behaviour of ink jet printed P-OLED drops is an important step to improving manufacturability. Working with ANSYS, computational fluid dynamic modeling is being employed.
In the future, P-OLEDs open up exciting possibilities for new product forms such as flexible displays.
